Placing Second
Placed second out of a field of 35, I should feel pretty good about that right? I don’t. Here’s why:
I was up and down all night mostly down. I won a a few hands early playing pretty solid but didn’t manage to keep many chips over the starting amount we got. Right before the break I got pocket 10s in late position so I raised it 3x the blind all but he big blind folded and she raised. The raise was only 2x my bet or the min raise. I should also mention that it was my wife. So I knew she had a solid hand but was it Ak, or AQ or a bigger pair? Could be either I call.
The flop is j, 8, 9 rainbow. She bets, Hmm same bet. Still could be AK/AQ more likely an over pair. But i’m open ended. It cost me 1/3 of what I have left, ok let’s gamble I call. Turn is a blank, she checks. A check ? A trap? If I bet it is all-in but I think it is an over pair. I need to hit the straight card a set could give KQ a better straight. I doubt that is what she has. Will an all in take it? Early in the game take the safe course, I check too. River is another blank. She checks again. Damn missed my straight. Are my 10s good enough? Probably not. Should I go all in? She has quite a few more chips than I do and I do think I will get called. fine, I check too… Yep Kings … Down to 1400 blinds are still low so I have ~ 14x the BB so I am still ok but the blinds are about to go up. Break time, time to regroup …
